IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THIS DISCLAIMER CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THIS WEBSITE OR RELYING UPON ANY INFORMATION PROVIDED HEREIN.
The Honest Abe Society (the “Society”) is a professional membership organization for licensed attorneys who affirm their commitment to ethical practice, integrity, and compliance with the standards of professional responsibility governing the legal profession. Membership is available to attorneys who meet defined baseline criteria of professional standing and who elect to publicly represent that commitment through the Society’s Membership Badge.

Reliance on Member-Provided Information
Membership in the Society and the display of any associated badge, seal, credential, or designation is based primarily upon information provided directly by the subscribing attorney. Each attorney applying for or renewing membership with the Society is required to self-certify, under penalty of removal from membership, that he or she has not been the subject of any ethical complaint resulting in a formal finding, sanction, or disciplinary action by any state bar association or attorney disciplinary authority. The Society relies upon the truthfulness and accuracy of these representations, and the Society does not independently verify each representation made by its members on an ongoing or continuous basis.

Scope of the Society’s Investigation
The Society conducts a limited investigation of each attorney’s disciplinary record at two points during the membership cycle: (1) at the time of initial enrollment and signup, and (2) on an annual basis in connection with the renewal of each member’s subscription. These investigations may include, but are not limited to, a review of publicly available state bar records, disciplinary databases, and other resources the Society deems appropriate in its sole discretion. The Society does not conduct continuous, real-time, or ongoing monitoring of any member’s disciplinary status between these periodic checks. Accordingly, there may be periods during which a member’s disciplinary status has changed, but such change has not yet been detected or reflected by the Society.

No Guarantee, Warranty, or Endorsement
Membership in the Society, or the display of any Society-affiliated designation, does not constitute a guarantee, warranty, or endorsement by the Society of any member attorney’s ethical standing, competence, quality of legal services, fitness to practice law, or suitability for any particular legal matter. The Society expressly disclaims any and all representations or warranties, whether express or implied, regarding the ethical standing or disciplinary history of any member attorney. The Society makes no representation that its investigation procedures are exhaustive or infallible, and it assumes no responsibility for any inaccuracies, errors, or omissions in the information provided by member attorneys or in the records maintained by state bar associations or other third-party sources.

No Legal Advice; No Attorney-Client Relationship
The information provided on this website, including, but not limited to, the listing of member attorneys, descriptions of the Society’s membership program, and any content or materials published by the Society, is for general informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice or the provision of legal services. No attorney-client relationship is formed between the Society and any user of this website, any member of the public, or any prospective client of a member attorney by virtue of accessing this website or reviewing any information contained herein. Users should not act or refrain from acting based upon any information provided on this website without first seeking the advice of a qualified attorney licensed to practice in the relevant jurisdiction.

Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Society, its officers, directors, employees, agents, contractors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising out of or in any way related to any person’s reliance upon a member attorney’s membership status, ethical standing, or any other information provided on or through this website. This limitation applies regardless of the theory of liability, whether based in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or otherwise, even if the Society has been advised of the possibility of such damages. No person or entity should rely solely upon an attorney’s membership in the Society as a basis for retaining or engaging that attorney’s legal services.

User Responsibility
Users of this website and members of the public are solely responsible for conducting their own independent due diligence before retaining or engaging any attorney, including, but not limited to, verifying the attorney’s current licensure status, disciplinary history, and standing with the applicable state bar association(s). Membership in the Society should be considered only one factor among many in evaluating an attorney’s qualifications and should not be treated as a substitute for a user’s own independent investigation.

Changes and Updates
The Society reserves the right to modify, amend, or update this Disclaimer at any time and without prior notice. Any such changes shall be effective immediately upon posting to this website. Continued use of this website following the posting of any changes constitutes acceptance of those changes.

Indemnification by Member Attorneys
As a condition of membership, each subscribing attorney agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Society, its officers, directors, employees, agents, contractors, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, demands, actions, suits, liabilities, losses, damages, judgments, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees and court costs) arising out of or in any way related to (a) the attorney’s misrepresentation or omission of any information provided to the Society, including, but not limited to, the attorney’s disciplinary history, licensure status, or ethical standing; (b) the attorney’s use of any Society-affiliated badge, seal, credential, designation, or trademark; or (c) any third-party claim arising from or relating to the attorney’s legal services, professional conduct, or disciplinary status. This indemnification obligation shall survive the termination, expiration, or revocation of the attorney’s membership in the Society.
